The Kingdom of Bahrain is an archipelago of more than 30 islands in the Persian Gulf which looks back to a 5000-year-old history and culture. It is the location of ancient Dilmun, home to what was an important Semitic civilization in the Bronze Age and was later conquered by Babylonians and Persians. There are a lot of ruins, burial mounds and forts to explore throughout the country, but Bahrain has to offer a lot more.
Nowadays, Bahrain is a major oil-producing country and is now increasing the economic in the banking and tourism sectors, but till the 19th century it was worldwide well known for its exquisite pearls. It’s tolerant, permissive monarchy and the laid-back nature of its inhabitants combined to make it an attractive destination for rest and relaxation.
